The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on Abuja residents to embrace values of peace, compassion, and unity as they join Muslims worldwide in celebrating Eid-el-Maulud, the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
In a heartfelt message to residents on Friday, Wike extended warm greetings on behalf of the administration, marking the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings of acceptance, love, and kindness. He said, “Eid-el-Maulud is not just a celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, it is an opportunity for us to come together as residents of the FCT to uphold our commitment to values of acceptance, love, and kindness that the Prophet preached. It is a time to remember the importance of compassion and the virtues of togetherness that should guide our interactions with one another irrespective of our beliefs.”
Wike commended the residents for their steadfast commitment to peace and harmony, acknowledging that their cooperation has been instrumental in the progress recorded by the administration since he assumed office. He also recognised the efforts of law enforcement agencies, healthcare workers, and essential service providers, who continue to ensure that the city remains safe and functional.
The minister reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to further developing the city, pledging that the FCT Administration (FCTA) would continue to prioritise infrastructure, security, healthcare, and emergency services to improve the quality of life for residents. He added, “As we celebrate this day, I urge you all to extend a hand of friendship, reach out to your neighbours, regardless of their background or beliefs, and foster a sense of community. Participate in programs that promote social cohesion, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. I also urge you all to meet your obligations to government and society. Contribute to the growth and progress of our beloved FCT by obeying traffic rules, paying your taxes, and engaging in civic activities.”
Wike further encouraged residents to use this special occasion to pray for the success of the nation’s President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, acknowledging his ongoing support for the FCT administration and his efforts towards developing the nation’s capital. “I implore you to use this auspicious occasion to also pray for the success of our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We appreciate his support for the FCT Administration and efforts towards the development of the nation’s capital and uplifting the people,” he said.
The minister also called for prayers for peace, prosperity, and progress in the FCT and Nigeria as a whole, underscoring the importance of unity during this significant period. “Let us pray for peace and prosperity, not just in our city, but for our country,” he said.
Eid-el-Maulud, celebrated annually by Muslims, commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad. In Nigeria, the occasion is marked with prayers, lectures, and community service. Over the years, political leaders have used the occasion to call for national unity and peaceful coexistence in a country rich in diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.
