Werder Bremen manager Horst Steffen has lauded Nigerian forward Victor Boniface for his seamless integration into the Bundesliga side, highlighting his positive influence both on and off the field.
Boniface, who joined the club on loan from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window, wasted no time in making an impact. He marked his debut with an assist in the team’s clash against Borussia Mönchengladbach, setting the tone for what looks to be a promising spell at Bremen.
Ahead of the team’s crucial league match against Bayern Munich, Steffen spoke highly of the 24-year-old, revealing to Süddeutsche Zeitung: “Victor is a very likeable person. He’s approachable, personable, and committed to the team. We share a lot of laughs together. It’s refreshing when a player has such a strong sense of humour and joy—he’s quickly become part of the group.”
Boniface’s move to Werder Bremen follows a difficult season at Bayer Leverkusen, where he struggled with injuries and inconsistent form as the club failed to defend their Bundesliga title. Now, at Bremen, the striker is determined to rediscover his best form and bolster his chances of earning a call-up to the Nigerian national team.
The 24-year-old has his sights set on securing a spot in the Super Eagles squad ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin. His performances at Bremen could play a pivotal role in his international ambitions, with Steffen acknowledging the striker’s contributions to the squad.
“Victor has fit in very quickly,” Steffen continued. “I can’t speak for what others may say about him, but here, he’s shown nothing but dedication and excellent character.”
