A former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, has reiterated that Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, cannot be allowed to leave the country due to pending terrorism financing allegations against him.
Ajaero was arrested by DSS personnel on Monday while attempting to travel to the United Kingdom on the invitation of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Britain. However, he was released late Monday night after hours of detention and pressure from civil societies and concerned Nigerians.
Amachree, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, emphasized that Ajaero’s arrest was justified, given the ongoing investigation into his alleged involvement in terrorism financing. He stated that Ajaero cannot leave the country until the investigation is complete, citing the severity of the allegations against him.
The former DSS director alleged that Ajaero’s tenant, Andrew Wynne, is suspected of financing terrorism and is currently in London. He suggested that Ajaero may have been planning to meet with Wynne in the UK, which could compromise the investigation.
Amachree also drew parallels with the case of wanted Binance executive Nadeem Anjarwalla, who fled Nigeria. He warned that Ajaero could have done the same if allowed to travel to the UK.

The former security operative clarified that Ajaero is being investigated in his personal capacity, not as NLC President, and that he must answer to the terrorism charges against him. He urged intelligence agencies to do everything possible to extradite Wynne from Britain to Nigeria to face justice.
