The United States Government has called on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to address the escalating insecurity affecting various regions of Nigeria.
In a statement released by the United States Embassy in Nigeria on Wednesday, officials expressed concern over the increasing acts of violence being witnessed across the country.
The US Embassy highlighted that states such as Plateau, Imo, Borno, and Benue are experiencing a troubling rise in insecurity.
“The United States Embassy in Nigeria is deeply saddened by and condemns recent acts of violence in Borno, Imo, and most recently in Benue and Plateau. The ongoing threats faced by communities and community leaders in Nigeria are deeply troubling,” the statement read.
The US government extended condolences to families affected by the violence perpetrated by bandits and terrorists.
Furthermore, the statement urged the Tinubu administration to take decisive measures to combat insecurity and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by these senseless acts. We look to Nigerian authorities to conduct thorough investigations to hold those responsible accountable,” it stated.
The United States reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria in promoting peace, security, and human rights throughout the nation.
“The United States stands with Nigeria in its efforts to promote peace, security, and respect for human rights across the country,” the statement concluded.
