Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that a member of the Nigeria Police Force stole his AI Rayban glasses during a protest at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
The protest, led by Sowore along with other activists and retired police officers, aimed to advocate for better welfare and the removal of retirees from the contributory pension scheme.
In a post on his verified social media account, Sowore claimed that the officer, who was in civilian clothing, was caught on camera committing the theft.
“This officer from the Nigeria Police Force, dressed in mufti, stole my AI Rayban glasses at the Force Headquarters during the #PoliceProtest today. His superiors are protecting him. Please DM me if you know his name and rank as soon as possible!” Sowore wrote.
The protest attracted participants from across the nation, featuring chants and placards that called for justice for retired officers, many of whom feel they have been unfairly treated under the current pension system.
While the police have not yet provided an official response to the allegations of theft, the incident has generated significant online reactions, with Sowore’s supporters demanding transparency and accountability.
Despite facing resistance from police authorities, the protest was carried out peacefully under supervision.
