Vice-President Kashim Shettima will on Wednesday deliver Nigeria’s national statement at the ongoing United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, Shettima is scheduled to address the Assembly between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. local time. Nigeria is also expected to unveil its updated Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement during the address.
Shettima joined other world leaders at the opening session, which featured a keynote by US President Donald Trump.
Stanley Nkwocha, spokesman for the Vice-President, said Nigeria’s message is expected to resonate globally, highlighting President Tinubu’s redefined approach to leadership and foreign policy.
“From educational and cultural diplomacy to sports, security, and economic cooperation, President Tinubu has reshaped Nigeria’s global engagement. His 2024 UNGA speech was a strong call for reforms, including greater African representation on the UN Security Council,” Nkwocha said.
