Senator Sunday Karimi, representing the Kogi West Senatorial District, has donated another N11 million for the rehabilitation of the Lokoja Fish Market Cold Room.
This contribution aims to empower women in the community by enabling them to store their fish produce effectively.
The Lokoja Fish Market Cold Room, originally constructed by the late Hon. Buba Jubril, had fallen into disrepair over the years. In December, Senator Karimi released an initial N11 million for the immediate rehabilitation of the cold room and the installation of solar street lights in the surrounding area.
The project is currently being overseen by stakeholders from the Lokoja Local Government, led by Hon. Haruna Isah, a former Member of the House of Representatives.
Senator Karimi emphasized his commitment to supporting the women of Lokoja LGA, stating that he will continue to provide assistance to improve their livelihoods.
Expressing gratitude for the Senator’s support, Hon. Haruna Isah said that the rehabilitation work is progressing rapidly.
Hajia Ramatu Lami, a fish seller at the market, commended Senator Karimi’s gesture, stating that the renovated cold room will significantly improve their ability to preserve their fish and enhance their income.
