Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, has called upon religious institutions, particularly the Anglican Church, to refrain from allowing politicians, including himself, to utilize their pulpits for abusive rhetoric.
During an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Mass commemorating the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Governor Fubara emphasized:
“Our pulpits should be sanctuaries for discourse on progress and unity within Rivers State. They should not be platforms for casting aspersions or abusing others. This is particularly concerning within the house of God. While I acknowledge this issue may not be prevalent in all denominations, I believe it is more pronounced within the Anglican Church. I urge you to address this, including instances involving myself or any other politician.”
Shifting focus, the Governor outlined his administration’s commitment to supporting not only the families of fallen heroes but also the living members of the armed forces.
“We will not solely concentrate on remembering those who sacrificed their lives. We will actively support those who continue to serve and contribute to our state. This will ensure that the legacy of the Armed Forces is honored through tangible support for both the fallen and the living.”
Governor Fubara expressed gratitude for the support of religious leaders and the resilience of his administration despite challenges. He reiterated his commitment to fostering peace and inclusive growth within the state
“We can only achieve our goals of inclusive growth and development in an environment of peace and order. We rely on the security agencies to maintain this environment. We urge all security personnel to prioritize the interests of Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.”
