Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced on Monday that Pope Leo XIV’s proposal to host peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine at the Vatican has received widespread international backing.
In a statement, Meloni revealed that the offer was well received during a recent call involving U.S. President Donald Trump and several European leaders. This discussion came shortly after a separate conversation between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The Holy Father’s willingness to host the talks at the Vatican was met with a positive response,” Meloni said.
The Vatican’s involvement is seen as a hopeful step toward facilitating dialogue and advancing peace in the ongoing conflict.
