The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has officially refuted the claims surrounding a viral “wanted” poster featuring Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, Iyabo Ojo. The poster, which spread widely on social media platforms, falsely suggested that the actress had been declared wanted, with a reward promised for information leading to her arrest.
In a statement released on its verified Facebook page, the NPF labeled the poster as “fake news,” urging the public to disregard it. The police clarified that the document did not originate from any official NPF platform and was misleading in nature.
“The ‘wanted’ poster of actress Iyabo Ojo did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force. It is false, misleading, and was never posted on any official NPF channels,” the statement read. The police also cautioned against the circulation of unverified information, advising Nigerians to rely solely on official police announcements.
This development comes as a reminder of the growing challenge posed by misinformation on social media, with the NPF urging citizens to be vigilant in verifying the authenticity of posts before sharing them.
In the meantime, Iyabo Ojo has yet to comment publicly on the matter, as the story continues to make rounds on social media.
