Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have issued a fiery warning to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and other rebellious members: cease actions that could jeopardize the PDP’s pivotal national convention set for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Gathering at the Zamfara State Government House in Gusau on Saturday, August 23, 2025, the governors, led by Bauchi State’s Bala Mohammed, doubled down on their unwavering support for the party’s July National Executive Committee (NEC) resolutions.
They hailed the PDP as Nigeria’s most trusted democratic force and the only credible alternative to steer the nation toward good governance and development.
In a strongly worded communiqué, the governors condemned “anti-party forces” attempting to derail the upcoming convention, urging members to stand firm. “The PDP remains Nigeria’s beacon of hope,” the statement declared, emphasizing the party’s resilience despite defections and internal squabbles.
The warning comes hot on the heels of Wike’s public clash with PDP leadership over the South-South congress, where he demanded recognition for his ally, Chief Dan Orbih, as National Vice Chairman. Wike’s rejection of the zoning committee, chaired by Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri, has fueled fresh tensions, threatening to fracture party unity.
Undeterred, the governors praised the PDP’s loyal members for their steadfastness, asserting that no amount of internal drama can shake the party’s deep-rooted grassroots support. With the convention looming, the PDP is gearing up to solidify its position as Nigeria’s path to progress.
