Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Northern Nigeria have unanimously adopted former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as their consensus candidate for the party’s National Chairman position. This decision comes ahead of the November elective convention scheduled to take place in Ibadan next month.

Following a closed-door meeting of Northern PDP leaders in Abuja, the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, announced the adoption of K.T. Turaki as a strategic move to reposition the party and strengthen its foundation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Fintiri explained that ten key positions had been zoned to the Northern region, with Turaki’s selection rooted in his inclusive leadership style, political maturity, and longstanding commitment to the unity and advancement of the PDP.

As Chairman of the PDP Elective Convention Committee, Governor Fintiri emphasized that the chairmanship race remains open to all aspirants. He assured that the party is committed to providing a fair and level playing field for every candidate who chooses to contest.

He also highlighted that the PDP has established robust mechanisms to manage internal disagreements, ensuring the party enters the convention united and ready to reclaim and restore hope to Nigerians.
