Crystal Palace are on the brink of completing a surprise move for Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche, defying Wolves’ earlier front-runner status for the 22-year-old’s signature. Fresh reports reveal Uche has travelled to England to finalise his switch, but not to Wolverhampton as initially expected.
Despite Wolves having reached an agreement with Getafe and scheduling a medical, the deal fell through after Uche expressed a strong preference to stay in Spain’s La Liga. Crystal Palace have now stepped in, set to meet Getafe’s €20 million valuation.
Sources close to the deal say the transfer is effectively being pushed through due to financial pressure on Getafe, allowing the club to balance their books and register several new signings. Uche, a dynamic midfielder known for his pace, power, and defensive work rate, last featured for Getafe on August 29 and is unlikely to join the Super Eagles squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifier in Uyo.
Crystal Palace’s urgency to secure Uche comes on the back of losing Eberechi Eze, with the club eager to bolster their squad ahead of the Premier League campaign. Though reports confirm Uche opposes the move, palace officials are keen to close the deal and add a player who contributed 10 goal involvements last season and has started this campaign strongly.
