Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has rejected claims that the North is dissatisfied with the current administration, insisting that the region “is extremely comfortable” with the president’s style of governance.
Bwala’s comments come in direct response to former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, who recently alleged that President Tinubu had neglected the North in the distribution of federal projects and development priorities. Babachir further claimed that prominent northern politicians had formed a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections to push back against perceived marginalisation.
Speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday, Bwala said the narrative of discontent in the North was false and politically motivated. “Northern Nigeria is extremely comfortable with the governance approach of Mr President. Do you know why? He is solving the problems that are in the long term and the problems in the moment. You can see conscious efforts by the president through various policy,” he stated.
When asked whether the presidency was aware of Nigerians’ complaints about economic hardship, Bwala maintained that conditions were already improving. He drew a distinction between genuine public concerns and what he described as an “agenda cooked by opposition politicians” seeking to undermine the government’s progress.
“There is a separation between the outcry by Nigerians and the agenda being pushed by opposition parties. The opposition is being tortured by the results and performance of President Tinubu’s administration,” Bwala said.
