Nollywood actress and former beauty queen, Ambassador Mina Horsefall, has lauded Nigerian youths for their role as catalysts of development worldwide. Speaking in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during her goodwill message on International Youth Day 2025, she stressed the importance of youth involvement in driving sustainable growth and social change.
She highlighted the theme for this year, ‘Local Youth Action for SDGs and Beyond’, which underscores the pivotal role of youth in global progress, starting at the grassroots level. “This year’s theme reminds us that global progress begins in communities. And in every corner of the world, young people are leading the way,” Horsefall remarked.
The Special Adviser on Development Partners and ICT to the Abuja Municipal Area Council also made a special mention of young women who are at the forefront of this movement. She commended them for their efforts in building more inclusive societies, promoting peace, and advocating for a more sustainable future. “The Nigerian youths are development catalysts,” she said.
Reflecting on the broader impact, Horsefall reminded the youth of their power to shape the future. “To every young person: your voice, ideas, and leadership matter,” she emphasized.
This year’s International Youth Day also marks a renewed commitment to the UN’s World Programme of Action for Youth, reinforcing the idea that when young people lead, societies thrive.
In line with her advocacy for youth empowerment, Horsefall has been a vocal supporter of young girls and women. In 2023, she celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child, urging for more support to help them unlock their potential.
“If effectively supported during their adolescent years, girls have the power to change the world,” she quoted from the UN, further highlighting the crucial role of youth in shaping a better future for all.
