The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has launched a nationwide integrated campaign targeting multiple diseases, including measles, rubella, polio, and human papillomavirus (HPV), alongside interventions for neglected tropical diseases.
In a statement outlining the goals of the 2025 Integrated Campaign, the agency said the initiative aims to achieve 95% vaccination coverage both nationally and across all states for measles, the new Oral Polio Vaccine type 2 (nOPV2), and other key immunisations.
The NPHCDA noted that the revised Nigeria Measles and Rubella Elimination Strategic Plan (2019–2030) aligns with global efforts to eradicate measles by 2030 through strengthened routine immunisation, surveillance, and innovative health technologies.
A major highlight of the plan is the introduction of the combined Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine, which will replace the single-dose measles vaccine in routine immunisation schedules at nine and fifteen months. The campaign will also conduct a “catch-up” vaccination for children aged nine months to fourteen years.
The programme aims to close immunity gaps, reduce the risk of congenital rubella syndrome, and boost overall child health through nutrition screening and growth monitoring.
The NPHCDA added that the campaign will also deliver public health interventions against neglected tropical diseases and malaria, while using the initiative to strengthen local health systems and improve equitable vaccine access across Nigeria.
