Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has finally opened his goalscoring account for Turkish powerhouse Besiktas, netting his first goal for the club in their 2–0 away victory over Konyaspor on Wednesday night.
The Nigerian international broke the deadlock in the 21st minute with a powerful header from a well-delivered corner by Orkun Kokcu, giving the visitors an early advantage in the Turkish Super Lig encounter.
The goal marked a significant moment for the 28-year-old midfielder, who joined Besiktas in August after an eight-year spell with former English Premier League side Leicester City.
Ndidi’s strike was also his first headed goal since April 2024, when he found the back of the net for Leicester City in their 5–0 win over Southampton in the English Championship. Before Wednesday’s match, the defensive midfielder had played 680 minutes across nine appearances without finding the net for his new club.
Reflecting on his performance, Ndidi expressed relief and happiness over finally scoring. “It’s always a great feeling to help the team, especially when you’ve been waiting for that first goal,” he said. “I’ve been working hard to adapt here, and I’m glad to contribute to this important win.”
Besiktas doubled their lead in the 72nd minute through former England international Tammy Abraham, who capitalised on a goalkeeping error to slot home and seal the victory.
The result lifted Besiktas to sixth place on the Super Lig table with 16 points, while Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray maintained top spot with 25 points after nine rounds of matches.
Ndidi, who has become a vital figure in Besiktas’ midfield, continues to earn praise for his consistency and leadership on the pitch. His goal is expected to boost his confidence as the club pushes to close the gap on the league leaders.
