Nasarawa State is ramping up its efforts to combat the increasing cases of measles and rubella with a renewed focus on the upcoming 2025 Integrated Measles-Rubella (MR) Vaccination Campaign. The Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (NAPHDA) recently brought together key stakeholders to formulate strategies aimed at improving immunisation rates and protecting vulnerable communities.
Dr Usman Iskilu Saleh, the Executive Secretary of NAPHDA, stressed the importance of collaboration among health officials, partners, and local communities. He said, “Active community engagement and advocacy are essential to encouraging vaccine uptake. Our collective efforts will be critical to the success of this campaign.”
Hon Ibrahim Tanko, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, urged journalists to play a central role in raising public awareness. “Timely and accurate information has the power to improve vaccine acceptance. The media can lead this effort,” he added.
In an effort to strengthen grassroots involvement, NAPHDA has engaged Ward Development Committees to enhance healthcare delivery at the local level. The state has also received technical support from the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) and initiated detailed microplanning. This includes training sessions for Technical Assistants in all Local Government Areas to ensure the smooth implementation of the vaccination campaign.
Dr Saleh expressed optimism about the campaign’s success, stating, “Nasarawa State’s proactive approach demonstrates our commitment to protecting children and communities from preventable diseases. Through united efforts involving government, partners, and the media, we are positioned to make meaningful public health progress.”
