The Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, is set to embark on a series of ambitious development projects that will transform the state into a bustling construction hub. A significant allocation of N109.23 billion has been earmarked for the expansion and enhancement of the 15.5 km southeast segment of the Rasidi Ladoja Circular Road, which includes the construction of essential infrastructure such as a toll plaza, flyovers, underpasses, and entry and exit points with mini toll gates along the 16.7 km Jagun/Ibadan/Ife axis.
The announcement was made following the weekly State Executive Council meeting held in Ibadan, where the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Dotun Oyelade, detailed the scope and financial implications of the project. The cost for the Jagun/Ibadan/Ife segment has increased from an initial estimate of ₦66.17 billion to ₦92.28 billion, while the expansion of the southeast segment will require an additional ₦16.96 billion.
The upward revision of the contract sum is attributed to the inclusion of additional features that will enhance the functionality and safety of the road, positioning it as a vital infrastructure project for the state. The government assures that, with the ongoing commitment of the Makinde administration, the project will be completed and operational by 2027.
In addition to the Circular Road project, the Executive Council has approved several other key initiatives aimed at improving the state’s infrastructure and agricultural sector. These include:
1. Public Lighting Installation: The installation of public lighting along the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road Phase One was approved, enhancing safety and accessibility for commuters.
2. Road Mapping and Maintenance: The Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Arc Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, has secured funding for road mapping, kerb painting, installation of steel rails, and the patching of designated roads in the Ibadan metropolis. This initiative, costing ₦120.47 million, will be executed through the Direct Labour intervention of the Ministry.
3. Farm Service Centres: The establishment of Farm Service Centres across the nine agricultural zones of Oyo State has been approved, with a budget of ₦570.78 million. These centres will serve as one-stop shops for agricultural inputs, promote the dissemination of modern farming techniques, and connect smallholder farmers to markets.
4. Renovation of Agricultural Offices: The Council has also approved the renovation of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Produce Department Office at Onireke, Ibadan, to facilitate the operations of the Federal Government’s Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute, South-Western Regional Training Centre. This project, estimated at ₦128.53 million, aims to foster wealth creation, job opportunities, and economic development through enhanced agricultural practices.These projects reflect the Makinde administration’s commitment to driving economic growth, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of life for residents in Oyo State. As these initiatives unfold, they are expected to create numerous job opportunities and stimulate local economies, further solidifying Oyo State’s position as a leader in sustainable development in Nigeria.
