An Ikeja-Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old teacher, Chukwunonso Okafor, to life imprisonment for defiling a 3-year-old child.
Chukwunonso was convicted and sentenced on three counts charges by Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Lagos State Sexual Offences Court.
The judge ruled that the prosecution successfully proved its case against the convict.
Delivering her judgment on count 1, the judge sentenced him to life imprisonment for sexual assault by inserting his penis in the victim ‘s vagina.
The offence is contrary to section 261 of the Criminal Law, ch 17, vol 3 Laws of Lagos state 2015.
On count 2, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for defilement. The offence is contrary to section 137, ch 17, vol 3 Laws of Lagos state 2015.
On count 3 , he was sentenced to seven years imprisonment. The offence is contrary to section 135, ch 17 Laws of Lagos State 2015.
According to the judge, the sentences are to run concurrently.
Justice Soladoye stated that the victim testified that the convict sucked her breast and penetrated her vagina.
The judge held that the victim’s testimony collaborates with that of the first prosecution witness (PW1).
Chukwunonso who was a teacher in the victim’s school, sometime between July to December 2022 at Abaranje, Ikotun, Lagos state was said to have inserted his penis in the mouth of the victim.
The court held that sexual assault by penetration in any opening of any part of the body is felony.
The victim was three years old when the incident happened and testified when she was four years old.
Justice Soladoye said: “You descended so low by having oral sex with your victim. Your action is Barbaric.
“The defendant is hereby found guilty of the three count charges of sexual assault, defilement, indecent treatment of a child and is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment.”
