Israel has conducted an air attack on the Qatari capital, Doha, targeting Hamas leaders based in the city. Loud explosions were reported near a building located in a residential neighborhood, according to Doha-based Al Jazeera.
The Israeli military confirmed responsibility for the operation, describing it as an assassination attempt against senior Hamas figures believed to have directed the organization’s activities for years. The military stated it remains committed to efforts to “defeat the Hamas terrorist organisation.”
Qatar strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “criminal attack” and a “flagrant violation of international laws.” Majed Al Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Minister, said the strike endangered the security and safety of both Qatari citizens and residents. He noted that the targeted buildings housed several members of Hamas’s political bureau.
Al Ansari emphasized Qatar’s firm stance against such actions, condemning what he described as reckless behavior by Israel and interference in regional security. He confirmed that investigations are underway at the highest level, with further information to be released as it becomes available.
Qatar has played a key role as a mediator in direct and indirect talks between Hamas, Israel, and the United States, which is Israel’s largest international supporter.
