Terrorists locally known as Lakurawa militants ambushed the convoy of Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, the Member of the House of Representatives for Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency, killing one soldier and injuring several others during an attack along the Lumma–Babanna road in Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State.
The ambush occurred Tuesday afternoon while the lawmaker was en route to Babanna town for an official engagement. The heavily armed assailants opened fire between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., catching the convoy by surprise and causing chaos among security personnel and supporters.
According to reliable sources, one soldier was killed instantly, and about eight others sustained injuries of varying severity. The wounded soldiers were promptly taken to General Hospital, New Bussa, where they are currently receiving treatment. Additionally, four supporters of Hon. Damisa were hit by stray bullets, though none suffered fatal injuries.
The attackers also vandalised approximately 11 vehicles in the convoy, riddling them with bullets and causing significant damage. All damaged vehicles have since been evacuated from the scene.
Despite the violent assault, Damisa escaped unharmed, crediting the swift response of his security detail and reinforcements from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Babanna. The troops engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, ultimately forcing them to retreat into the forest.
