Turkish giants Galatasaray have set their sights on Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey as part of plans to strengthen their squad ahead of the January transfer window.
Reports from Pesindeyiz Galatasaray, as cited by Soccernet.ng, reveal that the reigning Turkish Super Lig champions are in search of a left-footed centre-back to bolster their defence for both their domestic and European campaigns.
Their primary target remains Strahinja Mihalovic of AC Milan, but Bassey has been identified as a strong alternative should the Italian club reject a winter approach.
Bassey, who currently plies his trade with Fulham FC in the English Premier League, has impressed with his consistent performances and physical presence at the back. The 25-year-old was named Player of the Year at Craven Cottage last season following a stellar campaign that earned him plaudits from fans and analysts alike.
Sources close to the club suggest that Galatasaray could table a bid in the region of €40 million for the Nigerian international. The move, if successful, would see Bassey join a side determined to defend their Super Lig title and make a deeper run in the UEFA Champions League.
