Galatasaray have officially confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen suffered a moderate ankle ligament sprain during the recent World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.
The 26-year-old forward, who recently completed a permanent transfer from Napoli to Galatasaray, was forced off in the first half of Nigeria’s 1-0 win in Uyo following a heavy challenge.
Osimhen returned to Istanbul for further medical assessment. Galatasaray’s team doctor, Op. Dr. Yener İnce, stated, “In the examinations performed today at our sponsor hospital…a moderate sprain (stretching and bleeding) was detected in his ankle ligaments.”
Treatment has already commenced to ensure his swift return to the pitch. “The necessary treatment has been initiated in order for our football player to return to the field as soon as possible,” the club added.
His absence is a significant setback for both the Super Eagles and Galatasaray, especially with Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifier against South Africa upcoming and Galatasaray balancing domestic and UEFA Champions League commitments.
