Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has responded to recent remarks by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, urging him to be more careful with his words regarding the Yoruba ethnic group.
In a recent interview, Babachir Lawal was quoted as saying that Yorubas “could not be trusted.” He alleged that during meetings where they constitute the majority, they often switch to their native language, effectively excluding others. Lawal also claimed that the Yoruba people tend to behave as though they have “subdued others” after receiving support.
Fani-Kayode took to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday to address the comments. He advised Babachir to “be very careful with your words and your characterisation of an entire race.” Fani-Kayode stated that “Attacking the Yoruba race does not strengthen your case. It diminishes you, weakens your argument, and destroys your credibility.”
The former minister also reminded Babachir Lawal that President Bola Tinubu played a key role in his appointment to the SGF position during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
