The European Union (EU) Delegation to Nigeria and West Africa has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Nigeria in areas such as good governance, culture, and economy. This assurance was made during the 5th lecture series organized by Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK).
Lecture Series: “The European Union, A Reliable Partner for Nigeria and the World”, held at the School of Postgraduate Studies Hall, featured presentations by the Head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria and West Africa, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, and the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Michal Cygan. Ambassador Mignot highlighted the EU’s commitment to mitigating global challenges, including insecurity, poverty, and climate change.
Ambassador Mignot emphasized that the EU is interested in establishing strong relationships with Nigeria, rather than exploiting its resources. He assured the university of the EU’s commitment to academic advancement and partnership.
The Vice Chancellor of NSUK, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, welcomed the ambassadors and highlighted the significance of the lecture series. She also marked the official beginning of the Burno Holyst Institute of European Studies, which aims to foster understanding of European governance, culture, and economics.
“The institute is poised to become a regional knowledge hub, enhancing research, fostering dialogue, and creating a space for academic exchange and cooperation between Europe and Africa” professor Sa’adatu said.
The ceremony included the presentation of plaques to the ambassadors by the Chancellor of the University, His Royal Highness Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, and Professor K’tso Nghargbu, with the award presentation by the Vice Chancellor.
The event marked a significant milestone in strengthening ties between the EU and Nigeria, particularly in the areas of education, research, and cultural exchange.
