Respected ESPN football analyst Colin Udoh has delivered a stark assessment of the Nigerian Super Eagles, calling the current squad “disgraceful” and the worst national team he has witnessed in three decades. Speaking on ESPN FC, Udoh expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s lacklustre performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where the team currently sits third in Group C, six points behind leaders South Africa.
Despite the mathematical possibility of qualification, Udoh pessimistically predicts that Nigeria’s chances are practically negligible. “Mathematically they could, but in reality I’ll say no — Nigeria is not coming to the United States,” he asserted.
The Super Eagles have undergone four coaching changes during the campaign, with José Peseiro, Finidi George, Augustine Eguavoen, and now Eric Chelle all leading the squad at various times. This instability, coupled with inconsistent performances, has contributed to Nigeria’s perilous position.
The team’s record includes only two wins, five draws, and a loss, an outcome below expectations for a team historically considered a powerhouse in African football. Udoh lamented the team’s lack of spirit and heart, saying, “I have never seen a team with less spirit, less heart than the current players and I think at this point some soul searching has to be done among the Nigerian players.”
