Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has formally requested to leave Italian side Atalanta, citing what he called broken promises and poor treatment by the club.
The 27-year-old made the announcement on Sunday through his verified Instagram and X pages, saying the decision followed “months of silence and frustration”.
According to him, repeated efforts to resolve things behind the scenes failed.
“I’ve done everything possible to sort this out privately, but sadly, I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right,” he wrote. “Enough is enough.”
Lookman said the club had previously agreed it was time for him to move on and had given verbal assurances that he would be allowed to leave once a fair offer arrived.
“It had already been agreed that this summer was the right time for a new chapter. The club ownership and I were on the same page,” he added.
However, despite receiving what he called a “reasonable” transfer bid, Atalanta has reportedly blocked the move.
“Despite now receiving an offer in line with what I believe was discussed, the club are now preventing the transfer, and I don’t understand why,” he said.
Though Lookman didn’t name the club involved, sources close to the player suggest that Inter Milan submitted a €42 million bid, with €3 million in add-ons. That’s still short of Atalanta’s €50 million valuation.
