Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has delivered a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, labeling it the “most corrupt and worst” government in Nigeria’s history.
Speaking to journalists in Katsina on Monday night, El-Rufai also accused the current federal government of being the most intolerant since the return of democracy in 1999, and of relying on “false propaganda,” particularly regarding the nation’s security challenges.
“I have said it before, this is the worst Federal Government in Nigerian history and all the indices have shown it. This is the most corrupt and most intolerant government in Nigeria. This is the most lying government that depends on false propaganda,” El-Rufai stated.
He refuted the government’s claims of improved security, arguing that many local government areas in Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto states remain under the control of bandits. He further asserted that key bandit and terrorist leaders, including Dogo Gide, Mallam Abba, and Bello Turji, remain at large.
“They lied that security has improved in Nigeria. They read out numbers of bandits killed except the ones we know are the leading bandits,” he said. “How many local governments are under the occupation of bandits in Katsina State? How many are occupied by bandits in Zamfara State and some parts of Sokoto State? And because you are in government you think that nothing would happen?”
El-Rufai was in Katsina to offer condolences to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda on the passing of his mother.
He also discussed his new political affiliation, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), expressing confidence that the party’s “long history and credibility” will enable it to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
