Controversial Nigerian entertainer and disc jockey, DJ Chicken, has reacted publicly for the first time since he was attacked by a mob in Sagamu, Ogun State, following a road accident that involved two motorcycles.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, November 1, sparked outrage after videos showed the entertainer being beaten by angry residents shortly after his car allegedly collided with the motorcycles on a narrow street.
Footage circulating online showed DJ Chicken stepping out of his vehicle in an attempt to assist one of the victims before the mob descended on him. A female passenger was also seen lying on the ground with visible injuries and blood stains, while voices in the background accused the DJ of reckless driving.
Following the viral footage, new images of the DJ with a swollen face and bruises trended across social media platforms, attracting mixed reactions from Nigerians.
Addressing the incident in a recent video, DJ Chicken compared his situation to that of Dangote truck drivers, who he claimed were not assaulted despite being involved in accidents.
“When Dangote truck kpayin people, nobody beat Dangote oh. Because I just hit someone, dem dent me for Sagamu,” he said, expressing frustration over what he described as unfair treatment.
The entertainer, who is also popular on TikTok for his controversial skits, insisted that the mob action was excessive and uncalled for. His remarks, however, drew another round of reactions from social media users.
Some Nigerians criticised his driving habits and accused him of being under the influence while behind the wheel, while others condemned the mob attack as jungle justice.
A user identified as @ogbeniade01 commented, “If Nigeria were a country indeed, DJ Chicken’s driver’s licence would have been revoked.” Another user, @campbellmodupe, cautioned, “Stop drinking too much and that thing you’re taking that makes you high while driving. Shut your trap and stop claiming right.”
Others, however, took a lighter tone, with one netizen joking, “Na only Chicken do Halloween for Nigeria yesterday.”
Meanwhile, DJ Chicken has continued to engage with his followers online and shared another clip where he reacted to a prayer by his friend, Tunde Perry, during a visit to Mecca. The DJ criticised Perry’s prayer, saying he should “focus on praying for himself instead of me.”
