Dangote Industries has reassigned engineers affected by recent layoffs at its refinery to roles in the company’s sugar, cement, and other business units.
According to company sources, the redeployment aims to retain skilled staff who played key roles in the refinery’s commissioning phase, many of whom received specialised training abroad.
“The company invested heavily in their training. Losing that experience hurts, but protecting the refinery comes first,” an official said.
Some engineers are also expected to take up positions at Dangote’s international operations, while recruitment is underway to fill the resulting vacancies.
A consultant explained that salary disparities between expatriate and local engineers were typical during the early stages of large industrial projects.
“Refinery operations differ from oil exploration, so pay structures cannot be compared,” the consultant noted.
The redeployment process, insiders added, is being handled individually and will be completed in phases across Dangote’s Nigerian and overseas sites.
