LAGOS – A Nigerian woman, Victoria Nkechi Mgbor, has stirred debate by asserting that some women remain trapped in abusive marriages because they follow spiritual guidance.
In a recent Facebook post, Mgbor, who has been married for 26 years, wrote that listening to the “holy spirit” about their marriage keeps women in “very abusive marriages, unfortunately.”
She further stated, “I don’t have the strength to wait for the holy spirit before I fix a man’s bullshit, sorry for my language.”
Mgbor argued that “the most abused women are found in churches and mosques trying to please God and the man.” She distanced herself from this, adding, “Count me out please. I wasn’t cut out to be mistreated or abused, ask my husband and children. It’s been 26 years.”
