Billionaire entrepreneur Cosmas Maduka has clarified his recent comments on Nigeria’s “wrong value system,” following a viral reaction from nightlife mogul Cubana Chiefpriest over the popular slang “money na water.”
Maduka, founder of Coscharis Motors, stated that he had never met Chiefpriest and was not referring to him when he made the remarks. “I have just discovered also the above, even though I never met him nor attended any of his events, and if I did, I cannot remember. I never had him in mind when I said what I believed was a wrong value system we have embraced. I respect his views because he is entitled to his opinion, and I wish him the best of life. May God bless him,” Maduka told entrepreneur Stephen Akintayo via WhatsApp.
The debate began after Maduka criticised the casual attitude toward money, claiming he had “never met a truly wealthy person who says ‘money na water.’” Cubana Chiefpriest responded quickly on social media, insisting that the phrase represents abundance and prosperity, not irresponsibility. He also challenged Maduka’s assessment of who qualifies as a real billionaire, urging him to “remove himself from the list of real billionaires.”
Social media users have weighed in, largely supporting Maduka’s measured response. One follower noted, “Powerful words of wisdom! Respect, humility, and understanding will always build more bridges than conflict ever could,” while another added, “Dr Cosmos Maduka’s point of view and CP’s point of view are both valid. But for me, I prefer Cosmos’ lifestyle.”
