A former Lagos lawmaker, Olusola Sokunle, has asserted that any coalition formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections will ultimately fail if he decides to seek re-election.
Sokunle, who represented Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I from 2015 to 2023 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, shared his views with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday, stating that Tinubu will not encounter significant opposition in his bid for re-election.
His comments come in response to the recent announcement of an opposition coalition aimed at contesting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming presidential election.
“We have heard and read about the formation of a coalition of some opposition leaders in the PDP and Labour Party against President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, and I laugh because I know, for sure, that Tinubu will win easily,” Sokunle said.
He confidently asserted that no alliance could effectively challenge the President, emphasizing Tinubu’s strong performance in office and his deep understanding of political strategy.
“I make bold to say that no gang-up can work against the President; he is performing well, and Nigerians will vote him again. The coalition will fail as the President understands the game more than those ganging up,” he added.
Sokunle noted that previous coalitions aimed at unseating sitting governments have typically been unsuccessful, predicting that the current opposition effort against Tinubu would meet a similar fate.
“No one is saying they should not gather, but their gathering is not of God; therefore, it is bound to fail,” he remarked.
The APC chieftain praised Tinubu for his decisive actions since taking office in 2023, which he believes have garnered widespread support among Nigerians. He commended the President’s initiatives to reset the economy, enhance security, and improve citizens’ welfare.
Sokunle urged citizens to continue supporting Tinubu’s efforts to rebuild Nigeria and guide it toward sustainable growth and development.
