Fulham manager Marco Silva has confirmed that Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze will play no part in the club’s Carabao Cup tie against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday following an injury setback.
The 26-year-old, who joined Fulham on loan from AC Milan, picked up the injury while on international duty during Nigeria’s 4–0 victory over Benin Republic’s Cheetahs at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
Chukwueze had impressed in the first half of that encounter, providing two assists before being substituted at the start of the second half for Olakunle Olusegun. Since then, he has missed Fulham’s last two Premier League matches against Arsenal and Newcastle United.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the midweek fixture, Silva revealed that several key players remain unavailable for selection, including Chukwueze.
“In terms of numbers, I think we are going to have around six to seven players out again,” Silva told Fulham’s official website.
“To be more clear — Antonee Robinson, Joachim Andersen, Emile Smith Rowe, Rodrigo Muniz, Harry Wilson, and Samuel Chukwueze.”
Chukwueze joined the London club on deadline day with hopes of reigniting his form in England’s top flight. The Super Eagles forward had a promising start, recording an assist in his opening two league games against Aston Villa and Bournemouth.
The injury is expected to keep him sidelined for an undisclosed period, with the winger now focusing on rehabilitation and an early return to action.
A source close to the club described his absence as “a short-term concern,” adding that the technical team remains optimistic about his swift recovery.
“Samuel has been working hard with the medical staff. The goal is to get him fully fit and ready for the next phase of the season,” the source said.
