A renewed chieftaincy dispute in Muye village, located in the Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, has led to violent confrontations between rival factions, prompting a swift response from security operatives.
According to Observers Times, the crisis erupted around 6:20 p.m. on Thursday when the deposed village head, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulkadir Maigari II, forcefully returned to Muye and entered the palace. This action heightened tensions among residents, particularly after supporters of the current village head, Dakachi, confronted the former monarch. A team of security personnel from Lapai quickly intervened to restore order.
However, the situation escalated on Friday morning as clashes broke out again between supporters of both factions, resulting in a chaotic free-for-all that disrupted public peace in the community.
Security forces were promptly deployed to Muye to restore normalcy. “The combined security teams have brought the situation under control. Monitoring and surveillance operations are ongoing to prevent any further breakdown of law and order,” a security source reported.
As of this report, no casualties or arrests have been officially confirmed.
