A final-year student at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti successfully passed her course after initially failing due to alleged sexual harassment by her lecturer, Anthony Agbegbedia. The student accused Agbegbedia of deliberately failing her because she rejected his advances.
Following a report by SaharaReporters, it was revealed that the student’s scripts were reassessed by an external examiner, confirming she had passed the course. The student had reported Agbegbedia’s inappropriate demands to the media, claiming he retaliated against her using his authority.
While the department has been directed to update her score, efforts were reportedly made to cover up Agbegbedia’s misconduct to avoid negative publicity.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, confirmed the receipt of the petition and assured that the matter is under investigation. He emphasized the importance of following due process and providing a fair hearing to all involved parties.
The case sheds light on the issue of sexual harassment on university campuses and the need for proper mechanisms to address such grievances.
