Police in Enugu say they have arrested some persons suspected to be connected to the murder of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr Paul Offu.
The Commissioner of Police, Sulieman Balarabe, confirmed the arrests on Saturday but did not disclose the number of suspects arrested.
Fr Offu was killed late Thursday along Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu.
The murder came months after another Catholic priest, Rev. Fr Clement Ugwu of St Mark Catholic Church, Obinofia Ndiuno in Ezeagu LGA, was killed.
Catholic priests in Enugu protested the latest killing on Friday by marching to the Government House and the police headquarters.
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a manhunt for the priest’s killers.
In a statement on Saturday by the presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, President Buhari condemned the attack and condoled with the parishioners and family of the cleric.
“President Buhari expresses deep shock and dismay over the killing of another priest, ordering a thorough manhunt for the killers and their immediate prosecution.
“The President commiserates with government and people of Enugu State, family of Rev Fr. Offu and members of the parish and all Christians,” the statement said.
