In a major development for labour relations in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, the Dangote Group has agreed to allow employees of its refinery and petrochemicals arm to join the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
Sources at a high-level meeting confirmed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is currently being drafted and is expected to be signed by both parties in the coming days.
According to insiders, discussions also explored a two-week implementation window for the agreement, which would formalise workers’ union membership and representation.
The move marks a significant breakthrough in negotiations between Africa’s largest refinery and one of the country’s most powerful labour unions, potentially reshaping industrial relations in Nigeria’s energy industry.
