A Federal High Court judge has ordered the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and its Speaker to appear and show cause why they should not be restrained from initiating impeachment proceedings against Bayelsa Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Justice Emeka gave the direction on October 27 while ruling on an ex-parte motion (FHC/ABJ/CS/2219/2025) filed by Ewhrudjakpo. The deputy governor is seeking an order preventing the state assembly from commencing impeachment on the basis of his decision not to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) before his four‑year tenure expires.
Ewhrudjakpo also asked the court to bar the Inspector‑General of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Bayelsa State Attorney‑General from withdrawing his official security detail pending the hearing of the substantive motion.
The court adjourned the matter to 13 November for hearing of the motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction.
