Senator Sunday Karimi of Kogi West has visited Yagba West Local Government Area to offer his condolences and support to the families of those who died in a recent bandit attack. The incident, which resulted in the deaths of five security operatives—three policemen and two vigilantes—had led to widespread mourning and protests in the community.
Arriving in Odo Ere, the headquarters of Yagba West, Senator Karimi met with victims’ families and community members. He urged local youth to remain law-abiding and vigilant, emphasizing the need for a collaborative, society-wide approach to combat rising insecurity. The Senator also prayed for the restoration of peace in Nigeria, acknowledging the ongoing efforts of both the federal and state governments to secure citizens’ lives.
As a gesture of support, Karimi donated N1 million to the youth gathered in Odo Ere, appealing for peace.
Support for Law Enforcement and Vigilantes
The lawmaker then proceeded to the Nigerian Police Force’s Egbe Division, where he commiserated with officers for the loss of their colleagues. He encouraged them to remain strong and patriotic, and donated N1 million to the widows and families of each of the three slain policemen.
Senator Karimi also visited the homes of the two vigilantes killed in the attack, Dekunle Adodo and Kayode Joshua, in Egbe. He prayed with their families and offered words of encouragement, assuring them that he shared in their pain. He also made undisclosed donations to their families to help alleviate their suffering and pledged his continued support. Additionally, he visited and donated to Sunday Ajawe, a constituent who was injured in a separate recent attack.
Call for Unity and Peace
At the palace of the Elegbe of Egbe, Oba Ayodele Irukera, Senator Karimi addressed a large gathering of local youth. He reiterated his plea for peace, vigilance, and patriotism while urging his constituents to abandon what he called a “pull-down syndrome” and instead work together for the development of the senatorial district.
Although the Senator was traveling abroad when the attack occurred, he stated that he had closely monitored the situation and made crucial contact with relevant stakeholders and agencies to help restore peace and normalcy to the area.
