Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has made a bold declaration, pledging that his party will unseat President Bola Tinubu and seize control of Lagos State in the 2027 general elections.
Aregbesola, a former Governor of Osun State, made the vow on Saturday during an event where the leader of the Labour Party’s Conscience Forum, Hon. Moshood Salvador, officially led his members to join the ADC. The event, held in Lagos, also commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Conscience Forum.
In his address to the new members, Aregbesola commended the group for their decision and challenged them to work towards taking over the seats of power in both Abuja and Lagos.
“With our resolve, it won’t be difficult at all to take over the seat of power,” Aregbesola stated. “It’s a simple strategy of one getting ten and each of the ten will equally get ten. It’s ‘operation ten over ten.’ Once we are able to get this done, that’s the end of it. We will surely meet at the Aso Rock Villa and produce the next president of the country.”
He expressed confidence in the new members, noting that the ADC is the only party capable of achieving this goal. “We are the only one that can make it difficult to take over wherever we are if the Conscience Forum, good looking people with highly cultured leadership can organize this kind of event to make a declaration for the ADC,” he said, adding that “Alausa is a sure ticket for all of us.”
Speaking on the group’s move to the ADC, Hon. Moshood Salvador explained that the challenges within the Labour Party have shown that it is no longer a viable option for the future. “The problem of the Labour Party has shown that they have lost the future. It’s no more a party of the future,” Salvador said. He described the move as a strategic decision to join a coalition of political parties, with the ADC as its symbol.
Salvador highlighted the size of his group, stating, “Conscience Forum, being a political group with over 400,000 members in Lagos, will have to showcase our structure including our LGA and Ward officers and so on. This is necessary for them to know the size of the group they are taking in.” He concluded by saying the declaration was made on their 25th anniversary to enable members to officially join the ADC at their respective ward levels.
