The Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Adamu A Kibiya, has received over 100 members of the All Progressives Congress from Tarai in Kibiya Local Government Area who defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party.
The defectors, led by the APC woman leader, Hajiya Sabuwa Tarai, announced their decision on Wednesday, citing developmental projects and programmes implemented by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration as the primary reason for switching allegiance.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Balarabe Kiru, the group expressed satisfaction with the governor’s performance across the state.
“We are impressed by the numerous projects executed by Gov. Yusuf at the local government and state level,” Tarai said whilst addressing party members during the defection ceremony.
The woman leader explained that the visible impact of the NNPP-led government’s initiatives in their community influenced their collective decision to abandon the APC.
Responding to the development, Commissioner Kibiya assured the new members of equal treatment within the party structure, emphasising that the NNPP operates an inclusive system that values every member regardless of their political background.
The commissioner welcomed them to what he described as the NNPP family and urged them to collaborate with existing members towards strengthening the party’s position in the local government and the state at large.
He encouraged the defectors to remain committed to the party’s ideals and work harmoniously with other members to ensure continued progress.
