The All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted the consensus method for its forthcoming Ekiti State governorship primary election, following the voluntary withdrawal of one of its cleared aspirants.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the party opted for the consensus mode after Mrs Atinuke Omolayo formally withdrew from the race and endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the party’s candidate.
According to Morka, Omolayo’s withdrawal and endorsement were conveyed in a letter to the party’s leadership, in which she expressed full support for any process adopted in line with the 2022 Electoral Act and the party’s Constitution.
The APC has notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the development, having met the requirements under Sections 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act for the adoption of a consensus candidate.
Morka announced that the Delegate Congress would hold on Saturday, followed by the Delegate Congress Appeal on 26 October, and the Special Nomination Congress to ratify the consensus candidate on 27 October.
He commended Omolayo for her sportsmanship and loyalty to party unity, urging APC leaders, members, and stakeholders in Ekiti State to remain united and work towards a decisive victory in the June 2026 governorship election.
