Chief Bamitale Oguntoyinbo, a veteran chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former chairman of Oye Local Government, has urged the Ekiti State government to establish a Local Government Advisory Council in every local council area.
According to him, this move would strengthen grassroots governance and support Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s developmental agenda.
At a recent gathering at his residence, Oguntoyinbo emphasised that local government chairmen must focus on impactful projects that benefit their communities in the long term. “Chairmen must think proactively and embark on legacy projects that will stand the test of time rather than waste resources on short-lived initiatives,” he stated.
Highlighting his experience as Oye Local Government chairman from 2004 to 2007, Oguntoyinbo, who also chairs the Ekiti State Environmental Protection Agency, reminded political leaders that “democracy starts from the grassroots.” He further called on council chairmen to actively support the governor’s vision at the local level.
“It is crucial for chairmen to engage community leaders and seasoned public servants with proven track records to advise on projects,” Oguntoyinbo added. He insisted that local governments should have advisory bodies to guide decision-making and project implementation.
The former NOA boss urged collaboration between local governments, state authorities, and the federal government to ensure coordinated development efforts.
