Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Sam Amadi, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was the architect of its own downfall, blaming its collapse on what he described as an unhealthy dependence on the financial influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike.
Dr Amadi made the comment while reacting to the defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said the opposition party had “destroyed itself because of the love of Wike’s money.”
According to him, the defection was understandable, as the APC remained “the most organised and sensible political party in Nigeria,” even though it currently has “a bad presidential candidate.”
In a post on his verified X handle, Amadi wrote, “I do not blame Peter Mbah for dumping the PDP for the APC. APC is the best organised and sensible party. But it has a bad presidential candidate. Peter Obi is the best guy to save Nigeria now. But which party now?”
He argued that while the APC appeared more structured, Nigeria’s progress required credible leadership rather than political structure alone, stressing that the Labour Party’s Peter Obi remained the most competent person to rescue the country.
Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to surround the forthcoming PDP National Convention following a reaffirmation of the status quo order by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the matter, ruled that his earlier directive maintaining the status quo in relation to the convention must remain in effect until the court delivers its final judgment.
The judge warned all parties in the suit to refrain from any action that could undermine or render the court’s eventual decision ineffective.
“You and I as lawyers and ministers in the temple of justice know that once a suit is filed and parties have been served, no step should be taken that touches on the subject matter,” Justice Omotosho said. “The court must not be over-reached. Where this is done, the court has power to nullify such actions. Please, let us respect the law; it is in our collective interest.”
He assured the parties that judgment would be delivered between now and the end of October, stating that he personally types his judgments to ensure no delay in communication.
