Aitana Bonmatí, the midfield dynamo for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team, has claimed the prestigious Women’s Ballon d’Or for the third consecutive year, reaffirming her dominance in women’s football.
The ceremony, held on Monday in Paris, saw the 27-year-old fend off stiff competition, with her teammate Mariona Caldentey coming in a close second.
Despite facing setbacks during the 2025 season, including a defeat in the Women’s Champions League final at the hands of Arsenal, Bonmatí’s consistency and resilience stood out. Her stellar performance at the 2025 Women’s Euro was a highlight, where she was crowned Player of the Tournament.

This recognition came even after she missed Spain’s first two matches due to a recovery from viral meningitis.
Bonmatí’s triumph marks the continuation of an extraordinary era for Barcelona and Spain, as she follows in the footsteps of her teammate Alexia Putellas, who won back-to-back Ballon d’Ors. The only other players to have claimed the award since its inception in 2018 are Ada Hegerberg of Norway and Megan Rapinoe from the USA.
In third place was Alessia Russo, a key figure in England’s victorious Euro 2025 campaign, adding further strength to the competition for women’s football’s most coveted individual prize.
