A faction of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere yesterday condemned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, declaring that the much-touted “renewed hope” agenda has become a nightmare for Nigerians over the past two years.
In a scathing mid-term report released by Afenifere leaders Oba Oladipo Olaitan and Justice Faloye, the group accused the government of engaging in “massive propaganda” to mask its failures.
The report highlights a “titanic crash” in domestic production, an “astronomical rise” in public debt, and a “horrific increase” in poverty since Tinubu took office. According to Afenifere, the government operates an “unabashedly profligate” regime benefiting the privileged few.
The group further accused the administration of undermining democratic federalism and steering Nigeria towards a one-party state by centralizing power and weakening legislative and judicial institutions.
“Every human development and sociopolitical index has regressed,” the report states. “The Tinubu Economic Reforms have turned into Tinubu Economic Deforms, with unforced errors like subsidy mismanagement and reckless currency floating, all without adequate cushioning for Nigerians.”
Afenifere criticized the government for ballooning governance costs instead of implementing cost-cutting measures recommended in the Oronsaye Report. The report condemned lavish spending on presidential jets, luxury vehicles for legislators, and unaccounted constituency projects amid widespread poverty.
The group also denounced Tinubu’s refusal to devolve power for state policing and the takeover of local government administrations, further eroding federalism. They accused the government of suppressing dissent, intimidating protesters, and manipulating opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
“This administration prioritizes winning elections over service delivery,” Afenifere said. “No amount of propaganda can hide the hunger and despair in Nigeria.”
The group urged President Tinubu to reflect and change course for the sake of Nigeria and its people.
