Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), launched a spirited membership drive in Lagos State, urging Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP). Speaking in Kosofe on Monday, the former minister branded these parties as failures, accusing them of letting the nation down. He positioned the ADC as the beacon of hope, offering a transformative “new deal” to reset Nigeria on a path to progress.
Aregbesola, addressing supporters, rallied them to spread the ADC’s message far and wide. “I urge you to champion the ADC’s vision across every community,” he declared. “Our party offers a fresh start—a promise to steer Nigeria towards development and prosperity. Nigerians must join us to oust the failed APC government and safeguard their votes with unwavering vigilance.”
Funmi Onita-Coker, ADC’s Kosofe influencer, confirmed Aregbesola’s visit was a strategic move to bolster the party’s ranks, with incentives promised to ensure the campaign’s success.
Lagos APC Hits Back: “Aregbesola’s Betrayal Stinks of Opportunism”
The Lagos APC wasted no time in firing back, with spokesman Seye Oladejo labelling Aregbesola a turncoat. “His remarks are a shocking betrayal of the values he once upheld in our party,” Oladejo said. “This so-called ‘new deal’ is nothing but political opportunism dressed up as reform. Aregbesola, who rose from Lagos Commissioner to Osun Governor and Federal Minister on the APC’s platform, now seeks to rewrite history for cheap political points.”
Oladejo dismissed Aregbesola’s criticisms as theatrical and baseless, insisting that Lagos APC remains steadfast. “We’re focused on delivering for Lagosians and won’t be swayed by grandstanding or falsehoods. His sudden conversion to ADC reeks of desperation, not conviction.”
South-West APC Gears Up for Tinubu’s Re-election
In a related move, the South-West APC announced plans to recruit over 2,000 canvassers across the region’s electoral wards to secure a second term for President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Speaking after a zonal executive meeting in Akure, Ondo State, Zonal Chairman Isaacs Kekemeke said the party was strategising to replicate the Northwest’s electoral loyalty to former President Muhammadu Buhari. “We’re mobilising to ensure the Southwest delivers emphatically for Tinubu,” Kekemeke told reporters.
