The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State has clarified that Senator Nenadi Usman and Hon. Bashir Saidu are not part of its leadership structure but serve as heads of a broader coalition of opposition forces in the state.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the party explained that the two politicians were appointed by coalition partners comprising several opposition parties and interest groups working together in Kaduna.
“The recent appointments of Senator Usman as Chairman and Hon. Saidu as Co-Chairman were made by the coalition partners,” the ADC said.
The party stressed that its internal leadership framework remains unchanged and that the appointments made by the coalition do not in any way affect its organisational hierarchy.
“The ADC as a political party maintains its duly elected leadership structure, which remains intact and unaffected by the appointments made by the coalition partners,” the statement added.
The clarification comes amid growing reports suggesting that Senator Usman had joined the ADC a claim the party firmly dismissed as untrue.
“The clarification became necessary following reports alleging that Senator Usman had defected to the ADC a claim it described as entirely false,” the party said.
According to the ADC, the coalition’s structure operates independently of its own political organisation.
“These appointments are entirely separate and distinct from the leadership structure of the ADC in Kaduna State,” the statement read.
The party further explained that Senator Usman’s appointment is consistent with her current role as the Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, highlighting her involvement in a larger alliance of opposition actors.
“It is well known that the Labour Party leadership, stakeholders, and even its 2023 presidential candidate have been active participants in this collective rescue mission,” the ADC noted.
Reaffirming its leadership, the party named Elder Patrick Ambut as the recognised ADC Chairman in Kaduna State, insisting that he remains in charge of the party’s affairs.
“The ADC’s leadership structure remains unchanged, and Elder Patrick Ambut continues to lead the party in the state,” the statement concluded.
